USGIF is the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation.
It is USGIF’s aim to Build the Community, Advance the Trade Craft, and Accelerate Innovation.
For quite a few years now, several scientific, mathematical, analysis, and acquisition disciplines have functioned as components for a broader discipline and converged into GEOINT – Geospatial Intelligence. Over the years, GEOINT has turned into our homeland and national security cornerstone and is the centerpiece and functional center of numerous intelligence methods.
Not so long ago, the American private sector started to experience similarly a convergence of various geospatial intelligence directions and disciplines which has resulted in forming USGIF, the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation. This is the only (and first) foundation where intelligence members have the chance to work together toward reaching their mutual goals that include the improvement of the American national security while using their knowledge to benefit the organization’s work.
Actually, USGIF is the single US organization of its kind. USGIF aims to bring together the various disciplines that are involved in all aspects of geospatial intelligence. Here, the different sectors can share best practices, exchange ideas, learn how to best value and support their staff, and develop initiatives to promote the importance and education of the ever more crucial agenda of our national geospatial intelligence.
Many professionals have joined USGIF in pursuit of this mission.
A Piece of History
In the year 2003, a group of important and leading authorities on the field of geospatial intelligence and EMR medical experts realized that there was an increasing and inherent demand for a unified approach and vision to promoting the tradecraft of geospatial intelligence. In that same year, 2003, this group of experts then organized the GEOINTEL conference which turned out to be a great success. This was also the moment the experts realized, though they all worked with numbers, that it was about people as well, not only numbers!
This conference eventually was the predecessor to the organization’s annual GEOINT Symposium where in early 2004, the USGIF was established. It was the Foundation’s mission to bring together and streamline academia, departments of government, professional organizations, industry, and individuals to advance the tradecraft of geospatial intelligence in relation to aspects of national security and this mission continues today while, at the same time, safeguarding citizens’ privacy rights like is done with Healthcare Information Technology.
As it is the first and only American organization of its kind, the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) has been very helpful in advancing this specific tradecraft through many programs and events such as its highly acclaimed symposiums (GEOINTSymposiums) and the organization’s technology-focused so-called “Tech Days”.
Currently, the Foundation counts over two hundred member organizations that support and assist in the execution of all of the Foundation’s interesting objectives. The USGIF Foundation additionally made education one of its top priorities which shows in offering programs for university and college accreditation, scholarships, grants to less privileged K-12 educational organizations, and many other initiatives. Like Health Record Banks might be the answer to quite a few issues in the world of hospitals and medicine, USGIF data may play a critical role in our national security.
USGIF is the single American foundation committed to bringing together and harmonizing the various different disciplines that dedicated to geospatial intelligence and to exchange ideas that live within the sector, share various best practices, and enhance and promote the importance of the agenda of our nation’s geospatial intelligence as well as education in this field.
